A day of thanks

Well Thanksgiving has come and gone. We tried to keep things on the smaller side this year. My Wife’s daughter was with her dad for the week so it was just the three of us and we invited my mom for dinner. We had a traditional turkey packed full of homemade stuffing (A recipe I have been perfecting for well over 10 years. Each year it seems to get even better.) and all the good stuff you would expect for a tasty thanksgiving dinner. Things like mashed potatoes, homemade cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, kielbasa and a few other things. I won’t say that I didn’t eat a lot, because I pigged out. But, I did eat less than in previous years which was good.

I haven’t been hitting the leftovers as hard as I do some years either which is another plus. I had a weigh in yesterday, one day after Thanksgiving and weighed in at about 4/10 of a pound less than the week before. Not great, but better than I expected for Thanksgiving week. I pretty much look at the whole week as a loss. Between thanksgiving day and the leftovers for three days afterward not to mention the day before thanksgiving where the last thing you want to do is cook so you head out to a restaurant or order takeout. Well, at least we do. Who wants to cook the day before thanksgiving? Then there have been the bad but ohh so good foods. Who can have Thanksgiving without having pumpkin pie? Not me! My wife made two pumpkin pies and my mom brought along a blueberry pie. I have had a piece of each and will probably have another piece of each pie today. I also made a batch of my pumpkin nut muffins that came out better than ever. With all the food that has been available, I seem to be doing ok. Not good, but ok. I think I will spend next week drinking meal replacement shakes for breakfast lunch and dinner. But, it will be worth it to have been able to enjoy the Thanksgiving traditions I have come to love.
