Biggest challenges – Trouble foods
My biggest challenges come in the food I eat. I like to eat and I like to eat a wide variety of food. A lot of the foods that I think are good aren’t exactly so good for me. So, I figured with my new start in the new year, I would take a look at some of the trouble foods that are my biggest challenge points to losing weight. These are the foods that I have a tough time avoiding and saying no to.
Cheese – I love cheese. It drives me insane. I can sit down with a 1 pound block of cheese and some crackers and eat away. I love cheese on things including my veggies. Cant have broccoli or cauliflower without some cheese whiz. I had been better with cheese in the early part of last year. But, I kind of went overboard in the later part of the year.
Pizza – Pizza, it has cheese on it. ’nuff said. I can eat more than half a pizza in one sitting. Not such a good thing. I try to avoid it, but just sometimes it makes for a quick easy meal.
Beer & Wine – With football season this year and throughout the holiday’s I started drinking a bit more. With the drinking I ended up eating more. Most of the time it was cheese and cracker. Did I mention that I love cheese? Football season is pretty much over although my Cowboys did make the playoffs this year. Go Cowboys! If they manage to go to the Super Bowl, then there are 4 weeks of football left. If not, even fewer weeks. But, I have already cut back. There are a few bottles of wine left in the house from Thanksgiving and Christmas. Once they are gone, we will be wine free for awhile. Same goes with the last case of beer in the house. I do have to say. Sam Adams Winter Logger is one damn good beer.
Butter – Can’t cook without butter. I just can’t do it. I refuse to use the butter substitutes. I would rather have the fat from the butter than the chemicals and crap they fill those manufactured foods with. So, butter is just one of those things I need to live with, but use less of.
Bread – I was doing good in the bread department for awhile. I started eating Pepperidge Farm Light Style 7 grain bread for awhile. It is good bread and only has 45 calories per slice. I kind of got off of that and I am back to the 80 calorie per slice Italian loaf bread. I have also been eating alot more bread as well. Things like english muffins, bagels, etc. I need to get back into the lighter bread.
Chocolate – If I can avoid buying this stuff at the store, then I am good. But, once it is in the house I’m in trouble. I can’t say no to chocolate.
Salad Dressing – I had been doing good for awhile with light dressing. I was using wishbone fat free italian which has about 20 calories per serving. It’s a very good dressing but, I need some variety. I found a pretty good light version of a thousand island dressing I like. But it has 45 calories in it.. and I generally use more of it on my salad. I’m thinking it’s time I go back to the italian.
Chinese Buffets – Chinese Buffets are just pure torture. I love going to these things. They seem to be everywhere. Including one 5 minutes away. It has become a weekly lunch spot for my wife and I. Aside from cheese and alcohol this is one of my biggest problems because I can be having a great week and then hit the buffet and it turns into a not so great week. I have a big problem saying not to them too. I have decided to limit the trips to once a month. If I lose more than 5 pounds each time I visit the nutritionist, then lunch for the day will be chinese.
Nuts – Cashews and peanuts make a great snack but have soooo many calories. I just need to not buy these things when I go shopping and I will be fine.
Bacon – mmmmmmmmm Bacon! I don’t eat it too much. But, I should eat it even less than I do. Eating a strip of fat can’t be very good for you even if it does taste so so good.
I’m sure there are a few others that im not thinking of at the moment. These are the ones that have been plaguing me most recently. While I am not in favor of completely eliminating these form my diet. I need to keep myself in check when I am eating them. And spread them out more with more fresh stuff and healthier choices in between.
