Wii Workout

We bought the kids a Nintendo Wii for Christmas. Our 6 year old had been begging for one for about 4 months and it was the only thing he wanted. He had a Game Cube before that and is a huge Mario fan so we got him two Mario games to go with it. Plus it came with two other game packs, one of them being Wii Sports. Up until tonight he has mostly been playing the Mario Games but, I told him last night that we would spend some time playing together tonight. Well, after a few hours of trying to get something to work for a website I am working on, I was ready for a break and we had a blast playing some of the Wii Sports games like bowling and golf.

I am amazed at how far game technology has come since my younger years. I can remember space invaders and asteroids and all those good games and then when the first Playstation came out and the other games like it. They were the best, but nothing even close to where games are today. I kind of lost touch with gaming for awhile. At most I played some of the Mario games he got for Christmas 2006 and Sim City 4 on my computer. This new gaming technology is just amazing with how free you can be when you are playing. You end up exercising without even realizing it. My son decided to take a break after a couple rounds of golf and I decided to check out the boxing game on it.

All I have to say is WOW! What a great workout. I went about 5 rounds and was sweating my butt off by the time I was done. I’m sure you could just sit and not really get into the game if you wanted to. But I figured what the hell, I have this game and a lot of built up frustration from the past week with the Cowboys losing and some stuff with work getting on my nerves. So, I went to town and was moving all over the place, throwing punches left and right. I really felt like I got a workout from that game. It was only about 10 minutes or so but, still a workout. It was also a great release for my frustration. I told my wife I will be getting that game out on the cold, cold days I don’t want to go for a walk and spending 15 - 20 minutes in front of it. Who would have figured I would be getting in a little extra exercise while playing video games with my son.
