A new Start - Day 7 - Walking it off
7 days into my new start, things are going well. My second weigh-in for the year has arrived. While, it wasn’t anything to write home about. It was still a drop. After weeks and months of slacking, it feels good to be moving in the right direction again. Today was day three since my visit with the nutritionist and my decision to get out of the house on a daily basis and take a walk. I hesitated going out today as the temp dropped a bit overnight and it has been raining all morning.
But, I went anyway and decided to throw in a little bit of a workout with weights when I got home just for good measure. I have to say, walking in the cold rain really sucks. I went solo today seeing as the dog won’t go anywhere near the rain and my wife isn’t feeling all that well. But, it was worth it. I have been looking at getting a good pair of walking shoes as the only footwear I have is a pair of hiking boots. Right now I’m looking at New Balance sneakers from King Size Direct. I will probably place the order later today. Once they get here I will be sure to post a review of them. Two things I really need to work on yet are my portion control at dinner time and my food logs. They both kind of work together. I am figuring when I get back into keeping the food logs, it should help me get my portions back under control as well. The walks I am taking are pretty short. Just a few blocks to the post office and back home, about 7 blocks total. They last about 15 minutes and I try to walk at a pretty good pace. It definitely gets my heart rate up and I can sure feel it by the time I get home. Today was the first time I had any real issues with my back. Partly due to the rain and partly due to the fact that I skipped my stretch before I left. I was taking the garbage out and decided I would just go since the rain had slowed down some at that point. I’m figuring that as I continue these walks I will add in an extra block every couple weeks. At that rate, I should be up to a half hour walk in a few months. I wanted to start taking my pedometer with me yesterday, but the batteries have died. I will need to replace them so I can start calculating my steps and calories burned.
