Motivational Nightmares

With the Christmas Holidays behind us, I had hoped to get things back on track quickly. While I have been doing ok, I haven’t been doing as well as I would like. While I am still loosing weight, I have not been eating near as good as I should be. I know this, but I seem to be having a problem getting myself back on track. In fact, it feels as if the train is now going in the opposite direction and I am running away from it. Add to that the feeling of what seems to be post holiday depression and the gloom of winter setting in, I just don’t really feel like trying right now. I would definitely have to say that since I started back in September, this seems to be the hardest point, and it almost seems like I should have more motivation now than before seeing as I have actually reached my short term goal of 400 pounds and I continue to loose weight. We will see what the next few weeks have in store. Hopefully I will be able to find some motivation and get back on track.

I have sunk to a new low

Well I have not been feeling all too well for the past week or so and I have also not been eating too well. I have been bloated and sore and cranky. If I were a woman, I would think that it was my time of the month. I was a bit surprised and quite happy when I stepped on the scale this week and discovered that I have sunk to a new low, weight that is. My current weight as of today is 396 pounds which puts me at a total loss so far of around 70 pounds or 15% of my starting weight. It is also the lowest weight I have been at in more than 3 years. So, now that I have surpassed my goal of 400 pounds my next goal is 365 lbs. which will be 100 pounds from my starting weight. I had initially set a goal of being there by June of this year, but Now I am thinking I might be able to reach it sooner. We will see.

Christmas is over but where is the exercise

So the holidays are behind us, but the exercise has not made a return appearance as of yet. My latest excuse is a lack of space. But, it really is a good one. About the only place in the house to find the room to do floor exercise is in the living room. The problem is we still have our tree up. And it is a HUGE tree (at least in terms of the available space). We usually have it up from the first week of December until the first or second week in January. So it will be heading the three shredder in the next 10 days or so and I will have the open space to get started back on my daily exercise. With my most recent project behind me and the holidays fading fast, I am actually looking forward to getting the new year started off right. I think If I can get myself into a daily routine, I should be able to drop a few more pounds each month and make it a little easier to get to my next goal quicker.

And a happy new year it is.

Well, the holidays have ended. The mass consumption of food and alcohol is over and I am surprisingly 4 pounds lighter as of today and I have met my goal of 400 pounds. A few days late. But, considering the food I consumed during the past two weeks, not to mention the amount of alcohol. I am both surprised and happy to finally be at 400 pounds and ready to burn off the next 200. I am still expecting to wake up one day with 20 pounds that just magically appeared. But, I guess the fact that I paid a lot more attention to what I was eating this time around and stayed away from the junk that usually goes with the holiday season, I managed to pull through. We had no pie, fudge or cookies in the house, so It was a lot easier not to eat. In fact we had to give Santa a peanut butter and jelly sandwich because at 10PM Christmas Eve, we realized we had no cookies to set out. He was happy for the change!

Eating Habits Change

I have been trying to get an overall picture of what I have been doing as far as modifying my eating habits, so I can try and do more of what has worked to this point. So far, I have made some big changes in my eating habits which include:

No more ice cream – this was a big one for me. I really like ice cream. Almost to a fault. I would eat way more than any single person should eat in one sitting. In all honesty, I haven’t really missed it to this point. But it is winter. I usually get the craving for ice cream in the summer, so we will see how it goes in 6 months.

No more junk food – with the exception of having a handful or two of chips when we get cheese steaks or subs. Now some might say cheese steaks or subs are junk food. But, I will never give them up. Even if it means I will always be 25 pounds heavier than my target weight. If you don’t understand this, you have never had a good cheese steak. But, this does not mean I will be eating one every week. I will be eating less of them.

8 calories per pound

I had my monthly trip to the nutritionist today. She was surprised at my weight loss, especially during the holidays. I lost about 14 pounds since my last trip. She said; since what I am doing seems to be working so well, that she isn’t going to make any changes. But, to expect some hurdles as I continue to lose and then she will make suggestions on how to overcome them. One thing I have changed since the last visit is that I have almost entirely cut out juices and other drinks aside from water. The only juice I still drink is veggie juice and an occasional drink when we go out to a restaurant, and the ever so infrequent beer (Although I did manage to drink quite a bit of wine and beer between Christmas and New Year’s Eve).

One thing the Nutritionist said was the we generally need 8 calories per pound to maintain our weight. So, I figure if my long term goal is currently at 175 that means I should be looking at about 1400 calories (My assessment of what she said, not her words. So, take it for what it is worth.). This has somewhat made me reassess my goal. While I see 1400 calories as a possibility, I think it is likely that I will tend to want to eat more. I can’t really say how I will feel if I ever get to 250 pounds, since I haven’t been there since I was a teen. But, I can say that I like to eat, and I’m not too sure that will ever change. I just need to keep eating better, healthier food. So, I do think with a good daily workout routine and a little more will power I could easily average 1800 calories a day which would put me around 225 pounds. I can live with that. Literally!
